For the first time in her career, Stetson University women's basketball junior forward Sasha Sims (Fayetteville, Ga.) has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Sunday.

Sims averaged 24.5 points per game and helped Stetson (21-8, 14-4 A-Sun) close out the regular season with a pair of wins to clinch the no. 2 seed for next week's Atlantic Sun Conference Championship in Macon, Ga.

Sims scored 22 points in a win over Kennesaw State on Thursday night, shooting 9-for-16 from the floor.  She then tallied a career-high 27 points against Mercer on Saturday behind a 9-for-15 shooting effort.  For the week she shot 58 percent from the floor and averaged 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 2.0 blocks in the two games.

A Sport Management major, Sims is averaging 11.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game this season.  She ranks ninth in the A-Sun in scoring, ninth in field goal pct. (.465), and third in blocks (42).  She has scored 20 or more points in each of the last three games.

It is Stetson's sixth A-Sun Player of the Week honor this season. Prior to Sims, Victoria McGowan was selected three times while Shanasa Sanders was tabbed twice.

The Hatters will face seventh-seeded ETSU in the A-Sun quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Wednesday on ESPN3.
