Orange Park, Fla. – The Stetson women’s golf team was back in action over the weekend at the Eagle Landing Invitational, hosted by James Madison University.
The Hatters opened play in the 17-team event with a solid 302 on Friday, but saw their scores increase in each of the next two rounds. Stetson posted a score of 306 on Saturday and closed the tournament on Sunday with a 312.
Stetson’s overall score of 920 was good for 11th place.
Campbell led the tournament from start to finish and won by 21 shots over second place Mississippi State (891). The Camels finished the tournament with a six-over par team score of 870 after rounds of 293, 390 and 287. East Carolina (897) and James Madison (903) finished third and fourth, respectively.
The Hatters were led by junior Ryan Ashburn, whose six-over par score of 222 was good for a tie for 13th. It was the best individual performance for Ashburn, in terms of score and relation to par, in her career. Her previous low three round score was a 227 at the Cincinnati Spring Invitational in 2011.
There was a 10 shot drop from Ashburn to Claudia Redinger, who finished at 232 for the tournament, good for a tie for 48th place.
The Hatters will return to competition this weekend at the Morehead State Invitational in Ocala. The tournament is scheduled to start on Sunday, March 17, with a practice round and run through Wednesday, March 20 at the Juliette Falls Golf Course.
