The Selection Show Party at the Brickhouse Grill was really fun. It was nice to see such a good turnout amongst staff, students, and other Stetson affiliates. We really appreciate the support that we are getting and it means a lot to know that the community stands so strongly behind us. We have seen banners and other types of recognition all around downtown DeLand and that is awesome. We can't thank you enough for the support.
The selection show process was nerve racking to say the least. Our team had been on ESPN's women's basketball bracketology so we thought we knew what to expect. When the show started and it got to the Baton Rouge region we just knew that our names would come up pretty soon; however, this was not the case. Instead, we were one of the last teams to find out where we were going and who we were playing. Everyone was a nervous wreck the entire time because we just wanted to know who we played and the anticipation of waiting to find out was becoming a bit overwhelming. It was almost like ESPN was teasing us. Every time a school was called and every commercial break I had knots in my stomach from waiting.
Seeing Stetson's name finally come up on the TV was an amazing feeling, especially as a #14 seed. Since we had to wait so long to find out who we played all expectations were thrown out the window. At that point we just wanted to know and it didn't matter who they said we would play. We definitely were not expecting to be placed as high as a #14 seed. This is the highest we have ever been placed going into the NCAA tournament and we are extremely grateful.
Going to the NCAA tournament for the second time in three years is a really big deal and I'm glad that some of the team knows what to expect because they were a part of the original group that went two years ago. I'm also proud that our underclassmen on the team will get to experience it. There is no better experience in college basketball. It's been a long hard road to get where we are now, sometimes feeling like we were fighting an uphill battle. All of the adversity that we experienced and battled through is paying off. We are closer than ever as a team and I know that any of my teammates will do whatever it takes win. I think it's really important that we can go into the tournament with this type of trust with one another so I am really looking forward to Saturday.
