MACON, Ga. – The Stetson men’s soccer team was picked to finish eighth in the 2013 Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, which was released by the league office on Thursday afternoon.
The Hatters (3-10-2, 2-5-1 in 2012) received 25 points in the poll, which is nine points ahead of ninth place North Florida, and just one point behind seventh place USC Upstate. Florida Gulf Coast, last year’s regular season and tournament champion, earned the top spot with 79 points and seven first place votes.
ETSU and Mercer, who each received one of the two remaining first place nods, were picked second and third with 69 and 66 points, respectively. Lipscomb (45), Northern Kentucky (42), and Jacksonville (37) finished fourth through sixth in the poll.
Stetson opened camp on Wednesday and will have its first exhibition match on August 19 at 7:00 p.m. The Hatters will host Florida Southern at the Athletics Training Center. The first regular season contest of the 2013 season is scheduled for August 30. Stetson will host UMass-Lowell at 5:00 p.m. at the ATC.
