The Stetson University football team ended a 57-year hiatus Saturday night, but the Hatters will have to wait until Sunday to complete their first game since 1956.

Stetson led Warner 10-3 with 12:35 remaining in the second quarter when game officials pulled the teams off the field for a lightning delay.  Pouring rain reached the stadium at 8:20 p.m. ET, and an hour later, the game was officially suspended until 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Fans bringing Saturday's game ticket will be readmitted to Spec Martin Stadium on Sunday.  Gates will open at 1:30 p.m. and there will be no charge for parking.

A boisterous sell-out crowd of 6,479 witnessed a pregame show that featured the game ball arriving via a skydiver and a ceremony honoring past Stetson Football players.  When James LaGamma kicked off at 7:02 p.m., the 57-year wait was officially over.

The Royals struck first with a 27-yard field goal by Connor Killeen just 1:56 into the game to take an early 3-0 lead.

Stetson answered with a game-tying 54 yard drive capped by LaGamma's 34-yard field goal.

In the second quarter, Rob Coggin hauled in a seven-yard pass from Ryan Tentler to give Stetson its first touchdown in the modern era and a 10-3 lead.

The lightning delay began at 7:41 p.m..

At the time of the delay, Tentler was 8-for-9 for 72 yards and one touchdown.  He also led the Hatters in rushing with 40 yards on two carries.  Coggin had three receptions for 34 yards.
