Stetson's offense produced 12 runs on 11 hits in a 12-4 victory over Princeton in the first game of the UCF Holiday Inn Tournament in Orlando on Friday.  The Hatters (7-2) then fell 3-2 to the College of Charleston in eight innings in the nightcap.

Meredith Owen went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and two RBI to lead the attack against Princeton (0-2).  Jessica Grifffin hit a two-run triple as part of a four-run fifth inning and finished with three RBI.  Jessie TenBroeck, Kayla Drury, and Brittany Hawn also collected two hits apiece for the Hatters.

Sarah Read (3-0) pitched seven innings of relief to earn her third victory of the season.  She allowed six hits and four runs while striking out four and walking one.

Stetson scored in every inning but the sixth.  Seven different Hatters recorded hits, and nine different Hatters scored runs in the game.

Unlike game one, game two proved to be a pitcher's duel as neither team scored through the first seven innings.  With the international tiebreak rule in effect, the Hatters scored twice in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Demi Meza and and run-scoring double to left by Owen.

The Hatters could not make the lead hold up as the Cougars (9-7) scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to take the one-run victory.  Owen (3-2) was the tough-luck loser despite retiring 21 of the 22 batters she faced through the first seven innings.

Owen and TenBroeck each had four hits on the day.

The UCF Tournament continues Saturday as the Hatters will face UT Martin and SIU-Edwardsville.
