DeLand, Fla. - For the third consecutive year, Stetson University senior Joe Beery has been named the ASUN Conference Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league announced on Wednesday. Beery is the first-ever men's runner to be named ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year three years in a row.
Beery, a double-major in Philosophy and Russian Studies, maintains a 3.99 cumulative GPA. He led the Hatters in four races this season, breaking the school-record for fastest 8K time with a mark of 25:36.92 at the ASUN Championship. His ninth place finish in that event also earned him a spot on the all-conference second team.
Beery also placed ninth at the UNF Invitational and the USF Invitational earlier this season.
Beery's selection marks the fifth consecutive year a Stetson runner has landed a spot on the ASUN All-Academic team.
The Hillsboro, Ohio native says he plans to attend law school after graduation and eventually begin a career in international law.
