Hatters Clinch Series Behind Stallings' Performance

Sophomore Cole Stallings put together a great outing on the hill on Sunday, helping the Stetson Hatters bring home the 6-1 win, clinching a series victory against the Columbia Lions.

The quality outing from Stallings (1-0) earned him the victory on the mound for Stetson (4-3). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out six. Senior Rasesh Pandya also pitched well, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking two and striking out three to earn his first save for the Hatters.

Stallings got off to a shaky start, allowing two hits and the one Columbia run, in the first inning. He responded with 10 consecutive outs before allowing a two-out single in the fourth.

Stetson tied the game in the second inning when Daniel Labrador singled off Lions' starter Billy Black (0-1) before working his way around to score on a ground out. The Hatters took the lead in the fourth when Kyle Ball reached on an error, stole second and moved up to third on another error on a bad pickoff throw before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Christian Pregent.

The Hatters added two insurance runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to put the game away. Sophomore Jakob Bullard singled home a run in each inning.

Stetson will be back in action on Tuesday night when the Hatters travel to Orlando to take on rival UCF at John Euliano Park. The team will be back home at Melching Field next weekend for games against Sacred Heart and Bethune-Cookman.
