Hatters Fall 3-1 to Ball State on Sunday

Baxter hits her fourth home run of the season

Athens, Ga. -- Haley Wynn's 2-run single in the top of sixth inning proved to be the difference as Ball State defeated Stetson 3-1 Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Georgia Bulldog Classic.

The Hatters (14-8) completed their spring break trip with a 3-3 record with wins over South Carolina and #16 Georgia.

Sunday's finale featured numerous scoring opportunities for both teams that went by the board.  Combined, Ball State and Stetson were just 1-for-18 with runners in scoring position and the two teams left a combined 23 runners on base (Ball State 12, Stetson 11).

Hannah Dukeman's sacrifice fly in the second gave the Cardinals (8-7) a 1-0 lead.

Marissa Baxter knotted the score with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.  It was her fourth round tripper of the season, tying her for the conference lead.

Wynn's single in the sixth broke the 1-1 tie and represented the only RISP hit on the day.

Stetson starter Lauren Klein fanned five over 5.1 innings, while Lauren Hobbs struck out three in 1.2 innings of relief.  The Hatters were held to just four hits at the plate.

Stetson will return home to face Holy Cross at noon on Wednesday in a game broadcast live on ESPN+.  It will be the Hatters' lone home game in a 10-game stretch.
