Hatters Fall to No. 5 Florida State 7-2

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson fell 7-2 to No. 5 Florida State in front of a sell out crowd Wednesday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.

Making their first trip to DeLand since 2000, the Seminoles (36-8) got a two-run home run from Michaela Edenfield and a 3.2 scoreless innings of relief from Makenna Reid.

Gianna Neimeier put the Hatters (23-23) on the board in the bottom of the first with a sacrifice fly that scored Brianna Clary.  In the bottom of the sixth, Marissa Baxter drove in Alyssa Gilman with a two-out RBI single to center.

Hatter starter Lauren Hobbs allowed three earned runs over 4.2 innings. She walked one and struck out two. Hannah Marien pitched 2.1 hitless innings of relief.  However, the Hatters committed three errors that led to four unearned runs.

Stetson dropped to 2-3 against Top 25 opponents this season.

With their final non-conference game now in the rearview mirror, the Hatters will prepare for three conference series prior to the start of the ASUN Championship in May.  All three series will be played in-state, including two of the three at home.

"The next three weekends are very important because we are neck-and-neck in the ASUN with all three of our upcoming opponents," Stetson head coach Shellie Robinson said. "We need to come out and attack, and hopefully come away with a couple of series wins."

Stetson (7-8 ASUN) will host FGCU (8-7 ASUN) in a 3-game set this weekend beginning with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.  The series finale will be played at 1 p.m. Sunday.  ALl three games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
