Hatters Clinch ASUN Championship Berth

Stetson Falls 8-5 in Regular Season Finale

DeLand, Fla. -- Although Stetson didn't get the result it wanted in its regular season finale, the Hatters know they will be one of eight teams competing for an ASUN Conference championship next week.

North Alabama (30-14-1, 12-11-1 ASUN) scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat Stetson 8-5 Saturday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.  The victory puts the Lions into the postseason tournament as well.

Stetson (28-27, 12-12 ASUN), meanwhile, officially clinched its spot late Friday night when Jacksonville defeated UNF.  The Hatters also know they will be seeded sixth, seventh, or eighth, but they will not know their opponent for Tuesday's play-in game until Sunday.

Stetson will host the ASUN Championship for the first time since 2018.  Tournament tickets are on sale and be purchased online at GoHatters.com/tix at the Patricia Wilson Field ticket office on the day of the game.

Evette Morgan hit a fourth-inning grand slam, the first for the Hatters this season, to give Stetson a 5-3 lead.  The Lions, however, fought back with two in the fifth and eventually forced extra innings.

Stetson collected 12 hits in the game, including three from Gianna Niemeier, two from Brianna Clary and two from Briana Robinson.  However, Stetson went just 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base.

Stetson's 12 ASUN victories is its most in league play since 2014.

Prior to the game, Stetson honored its Senior Class of 2023 including Madison Jump, Lauren Klein, Brianna Clary and Alyssa Gilman
