Fund Created to Aid Stetson Crew in Tornado Recovery

The tornado that ripped through Central Florida early Friday morning missed Stetson's main campus, but landed a direct hit at the Hatters crew team site on Lake Beresford.  According to Stetson officials, it is believed to be a 100% loss for the program. 

The crew team will move forward with the 2007 season, using borrowed and rented equipment.  At this time, the Hatters are still scheduled to open spring competition with the Stetson Sprints February 24.

Damage was limited to property and equipment.  No athletes or coaches were harmed.  The boathouse and every piece of equipment were lost. 

While insurance is covering a portion of the loss, it is not enough to cover the full financial burden of rebuilding the site and replacing the equipment.  Stetson University has created a "Crew Tornado Fund" account and is accepting donations.  Anyone wishing to contribute should make checks payable to Stetson University with "Crew Tornado Fund" in the memo line and mail to the following address:
