Las Vegas, Nev.- The Hatters fell to UNLV Saturday night 55-71 at the Thomas & Mack Center.
In the first half, after grabbing an offense rebound
Aubin Gateretse got the first bucket of the game on a putback layup while also drawing a foul. After that the Stetson offense would stall out as they fell behind 3-8. Two free throws from
Jalen Blackmon and a layup from
Treyton Thompson would cut the lead down to one.
Finley Sheridan would hit a three to give the Hatters a 10-9 lead however, UNLV would answer with back-to-back threes giving them back the lead. Stetson would fall behind as they trailed going into halftime down 21-34. The Hatters would finish the half shooting .258/.143.
The Hatters would struggle for much of the second half finding themselves down by twenty six but buckets from Blackmon, Thompson and Gateretse would help bring the Hatters back to being down ten as the final score was 55-71. The second half was a better shooting half for Stetson as they shot .371/.294. A big difference in the scoring for the Rebels was their bench points which contributed 25 to the Hatters 6.
Blackmon led the Hatters with 18 points followed by Gateretse with 16. Swenson had 8 assists to lead the team.
Alec Oglesby and Gateretse would each grab eight rebounds to tie for the team lead.
The Hatters will head to Texas to take on Houston Monday evening. Tip-Off will occur at at 8pm in the Fertitta Center.
