Hatters Rally for Another Walk-Off Win

Stetson wins Game 1 3-2, UNA takes Game 2 3-0

DeLand, Fla. -- Alyssa Gilman's two-out walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Stetson (28-26, 12-11 ASUN) to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over North Alabama Friday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.

The Lions (29-14-1, 11-11-1 ASUN) hit a pair of home runs to take game 2 3-0 and earn a split in the ASUN Conference doubleheader.

Both teams remain on the fringe of qualifying for the ASUN Championship next week.  Stetson can punch its ticket with a win on Saturday or via a result of one of four other scenarios around the league.

As they have done throughout the season, the Hatters rallied late to take game 1.  Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Stetson was down to its final strike when Annabella McClerren delivered an RBI single to center to score Gilman with the tying run.

In the bottom of the eighth, Gia Napoli led off with a triple into the right-field corner, but still remained at third base with two outs.  With the bases loaded, Gilman beat out a grounder to short to plate Napoli with the winning run.  It was Stetson's eighth walk-off victory this season.

Lauren Hobbs (15-10) earned a complete-game victory to become Stetson's first 15-game winner since Tori Perkins in 2018.  Gianna Niemeier also drove in a key run for the Hatters in the bottom of the sixth.

Hannah Marien (9-11) went the distance in game 2.

The teams will play the rubber game of their 3-game series at 1 p.m. Saturday. Stetson will honor its 2023 senior class prior to the game.

Notes: Stetson improved to 17-10 in 1-run games and to 5-4 in extra innings this season ... The Hatters have won 10 games in come-from-behind fashion ... Friday night update: With JU's win over UNF, Stetson has clinched a berth in the 2023 ASUN Championship.  The Hatters can still finish anywhere from fourth to eighth in the standings.
