STATESBORO, Ga. – Stetson men's soccer came up just short on the road Tuesday night, falling 1-0 to Georgia Southern at Bo Pitts Field.
The Eagles struck in the first half and carried the advantage into the break, but the Hatters fought to stay within reach over the final 45 minutes. Graduate goalkeeper Nicolo Radaelli, named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week earlier in the day, anchored the effort with six saves, including a full-extension dive in the 61st minute to deny a penalty kick and keep Stetson within one.
Just two minutes later, the Hatters nearly found the equalizer on the other end when newcomer Daniel Makowem broke free in the box. His shot appeared dangerous, but the Eagles' keeper made a diving save to turn it aside and preserve the lead.
Stetson (1-3-0) finished the night with six shots, one on target, while Georgia Southern (3-0-1) generated 15 attempts, seven on goal. The match also saw the Hatters booked for four yellow cards.
The Hatters return to the Athletic Training Center in DeLand on Sunday, Sept. 7, for a 6 p.m. matchup against No. 22 Florida Atlantic. The game will stream live on ESPN+, with live stats available at GoHatters.com.
