Biography

Abigail Kinsella, a freshman at Stetson University, is a force to be reckoned with.

As a cheerleader for the Hatters, she’s a natural leader who shines bright alongside her teammates. As a student of marine biology, she’s preparing for a career that will take her on a deep dive into the planet’s most vital ecosystems.

In both roles, she embodies the kind of resilience and determination that can only come from overcoming adversity.

A first-generation college student from a single-parent household, Kinsella learned the value of hard work and perseverance from her mother, who worked tirelessly to provide for their family.

“My mom is 100% my biggest influence,” Kinsella said. “Being a single mother and being able to sustain a home and prevail is something I completely adore. I thank her for always keeping me involved in cheer. I believe cheerleading was a huge safe space for both of us. No matter what was going on in my life, I always had my mom and cheerleading.”

Kinsella’s love for cheerleading has been a constant in her life since she was five years old.

For her, it’s not just a sport; it’s a way of life that has taught her humility, discipline, and teamwork.

“I love all the lessons learned with working with new people to build beautiful skills,” Kinsella said. “I most enjoy the bonds built with everyone you meet, knowing the hard work you put in together to build a routine.”

Her favorite thing about Stetson cheer is the camaraderie and the deep connections she’s made with her teammates.

“I wouldn’t rather wake up at 4:30 AM with any other ladies,” she said. “Although we have very serious moments, we have stronger bonded ones.”

When she’s not supporting Hatter sports programs, Kinsella is a dedicated student of marine biology.

Her passion for the ocean and its creatures has been with her since childhood, and she’s committed to making a difference in the world through marine conservation efforts.

“The ocean provides 70% of our planet’s oxygen, and coral reef restoration, along with marine animal conservation, will help play a huge role in reducing global warming, which is something I am a huge advocate for,” Kinsella said.

After receiving her degree, she aspires to become a traveling marine biologist, working on coral reef restoration and marine conservation projects around the world.

Kinsella’s unique skills and talents also reflect her resourcefulness and creativity.

“I’m a very crafty person,” she said. “I taught myself to sew, crochet, paint, draw, wood burn, build things, cook, bake. I like to know if I were to be somewhere not in mainstream society, I could survive.”

With her boundless determination, creativity, and passion for making a difference, there’s no doubt that Kinsella will leave a lasting impact in everything she does.
