Otis Johnson, a native of Stuart, Florida, played just one season for the Hatters. But what a magical season it was. In 1974-1975, Johnson's senior season, the Hatters went 22-4 tying a school record for most wins in a season. Johnson led the team in scoring at 15.8 points per game, and also grabbed a team-high 8.9 rebounds per game. Johnson’s impact was immediate and significant as the Hatters defeated both Florida State and Jacksonville for the first time in the same season in school history. Johnson was then selected in both the NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors, and the ABA Draft by the Utah Stars. Johnson elected to sign with Golden State, but the defending NBA champions didn’t have room for the 6-9 rookie forward. He later came back to Stetson to be an assistant coach for seven years. Johnson was inducted into the Stetson Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000.
